Naschmarkt is a large open-air market on Wienzeile in Vienna’s 6th district, with food stalls, restaurants and a weekly flea market. You can browse produce and delicacies from different countries, then visit the flea market on Saturday or travel by U-Bahn to one of the nearby stations.

What you’ll find at Naschmarkt

Naschmarkt brings together food stalls selling fresh produce, spices, fish, meat, cheese, dried fruit and other delicacies from different countries and regions. The range makes it a place to browse as well as shop: you can compare ingredients and pick up something to eat as you make your way along the market.

The farmers’ market focuses mainly on local products, including some organic produce. Fridays and Saturdays are the strongest days for this offer, and special table flags identify the farmers’ market stalls.

The market has a long history: it has existed since 1774. Before opening at its current location in 1916, it was in the area of today’s Wiedner Hauptstraße.

Market days and the flea market

Market days and the flea market

Saturday is the day to combine the food market with Naschmarkt’s flea market, held by Kettenbrücke on Linke Wienzeile. Around 400 private individuals and professional traders offer antiques, art, household goods, used books and records.

Regular market hours vary by type of stall. Sales stalls may operate from 6:00 to 21:00 on working weekdays and until 18:00 on working Saturdays. Farmers’ and traders’ marketplaces may operate until 19:30 on working weekdays and until 18:00 on working Saturdays.

Restaurants and bars may open until 23:00 Monday to Saturday, and from 9:00 to 21:00 on Sundays and public holidays. All stalls and venues must be open from 15:00 to 18:00 on working days from Tuesday to Friday.

These are permitted operating hours, not a promise that every stall will trade throughout the day. Hours can change, so check the City of Vienna’s official site before you go.

How do you get to Naschmarkt from the old town?

The Vienna Tourist Board identifies U4 Kettenbrückengasse and U1, U2 and U4 Karlsplatz as access stations for Naschmarkt. The market lies between the two stations, so you can choose an access point based on which part of the market you want to visit first.

If you’re planning a wider day on foot, the market can fit into a route that connects the old town with the Ring. For longer journeys around the city, the Vienna public transport guide covers tickets and lines.

The market address is Wienzeile, 1060 Vienna. From the old town, use Karlsplatz or Kettenbrückengasse as your arrival point.

Practical tips for a visit

Practical tips for a visit

For farmers’ market produce, aim for Friday or Saturday and look for the special flags on stall tables. If the flea market is your priority, arrive during its Saturday hours and allow time to browse the mix of antiques, art, household goods, books and records.

Private individuals without a relevant trade licence can book a day pitch at the flea market. The fee is €26.30 for a small pitch measuring 1.5 by 2 metres, or €52.60 for a large pitch measuring 3 by 2 metres.

Sellers must bring their own table, and each person may book a pitch no more than three times per calendar year.

For a broader walking plan around central Vienna, the one-day Vienna walk from the old town to the Ring pairs naturally with a market visit.
